JAMES A. DEPIETRO: ARTIST’S STATEMENT
I see myself, first and foremost, as a visual storyteller. I create my art narratives with multiple images which enable the viewer to explore the issues and interpret my point of view or message within their own terms. I have been expressing my art by taking a series format approach with my paintings. The work on display in this gallery represents the last 9 years of my creative process (2014 to present). I selected paintings from each of my most recent series: The Shadow Series, Objet d’Art Series, and The Stream of Consciousness Series for this exhibition.

In general, most of my paintings manipulate realistic images contrasting with abstract fields of colorful backgrounds or borders. Some have an interplay of words and visual imagery to form a direct relationship and become an all-encompassing narrative force in these detailed works of art, others deal directly with color, form and texture.

I try to express an unique and imaginative point of view on a variety of contemporary themes, exploring many wide-ranging topics over the years while putting an ironic spin on various social, political, or environmentally-themed issues as my subject matter.
